The Battles of Port Royal Sound, Fort Pulaski and Secessionville

The Federals Grab a Foothold

October 17-20, 2012

Stephen Wise, Rick Hatcher and Gloria Swift from Savannah, Georgia

Join us on a wonderful program highlighting three unique and important sites—the capture of the deep water port of Port Royal on November 7, 1861; the reduction of the masonry Fort Pulaski outside of Savannah and the unsuccessful federal attack at Secessionville on James Island just south of Charleston in July 1862. Each day features a new historian and a cluster of sites related to the central theme for the day—in the process you will visit, Hilton Head Island and Beaufort; Savannah and Tybee Island and Secession Row en route to James Island.
