November 14-17, 2012
With Parker Hills and Len Riedel from Vicksburg, Mississippi
With the failure of Grant’s frontal assaults on May 19th and 22nd, Grant settled down to a regular siege with parallels, mining operations and maddening bombardments. Entrapped within a city with diminishing supplies that caused them to eat rats, the “prairie dog” village endured some 42 days of siege before they surrendered. During that time Grant increased the strength of his force, opened a second front, had a drunken spree at Satartia, forced a surrender and returned to Jackson to eliminate Joe Johnston as a threat once and for all. This is your chance to see a city under siege, see the efforts to break the Confederate lines and visit sites not normally considered or seen in most tours of the campaign. A special perk will be to be with Parker in the park for the first time since he completed an exhaustive study of the monuments adorning the park.
Limited to the first 25 people.
