Racing to Honor the “Gallant Pelham” at Fredericksburg
We are committed to placing a 12 Pounder Napoleon at Pelham’s Corner at Fredericksburg on land owned by the Central Virginia Battlegrounds Trust. This challenge was made a little steeper by the need to purchase a new carriage — the installed Project Price $19,800! CVBT and BGES agreed to split it right down the middle: $9,900 each. They have theirs — we are within $2,500 of completing the task.
Artillery has been called the “King of the Battlefield,” and the new rifle, which will be like the one pictured, will allow CSO to actively engage even more audiences in explaining artillery’s central role in 19th-century warfare.
On Saturday, May 4th we will turn over the cannon for Fort Clinch and fire the first shot. A week later at Raymond we will dedicate 13 cannons sponsored by BGES and her members. It would be great to finish our fourth cannon project on Sunday in the midst of that.
